The Statistical Society of Australia Inc. (SSAI) is the peak body representing statisticians in Australia and abroad.〔http://www.statsoc.org.au/〕 The SSAI was founded in 1962, and in 2015 had about 700 members. It has its own publishing arm, the Australian Statistical Publishing Association Inc. (ASPAI). Its main publication is the The Australian and New Zealand Journal of Statistics.〔http://www.statsoc.org.au/anzjs〕 The Society awards a gold medal, the Pitman Medal, at most once annually. It recognizes outstanding achievement in, and contribution to, the discipline of statistics.
